A Star is Born in Gorham
Hunter Finck, a junior at Gorham High School, capped a breakout 2026 baseball season that has turned heads across the state. His name now appears on the shortlist of the nation’s most coveted high‑school prospects, and his achievements have already earned him the Varsity Maine Baseball Player of the Year award.
Finck finished the year with a perfect 6‑0 record and a 0.38 earned‑run average. Victories over South Portland, Cheverus and Thornton Academy punctuated his schedule, showcasing a poise beyond his years.
At the plate he batted .569, capturing the SMAA batting title with two doubles, five triples and a lone home run. He delivered a game‑winning RBI single in the 11th inning of the Class A championship against Bangor, sealing the title for his team.
Commitment and Future Prospects
Finck has already committed to the University of Alabama, where he will join the Crimson Tide as a right‑handed pitching prospect. The commitment marks the next step in a career that already includes a state championship and national recognition.
This summer he will travel the country with Team Elite, competing in high‑level showcase events such as the East Coast Pro and the Area Code Games. Scouts from Major League Baseball and top NCAA programs will get their first extended look at his evolving repertoire.
