Hunter McGuire wrapped up his Chippewa Hills athletic journey in 2026 with a season that blended track dominance and football leadership. On the track, he anchored the Warriors' 4×400-meter relay squad to a Central State Activities Association Red Division championship, a victory that helped the team finish second at the regional meet and 14th at the Division 2 state finals. The same relay unit, also featuring David Burgess, Judah Todd and Clay Ferrell, captured six victories throughout the campaign.
Individual Sprint Excellence
In the 400‑meter dash, McGuire placed third with a season‑best 52.05 seconds, while his 200‑meter performance saw him finish third at 23.60 seconds, having posted a personal best of 23.35 seconds earlier in the year. His contributions extended to the 4×200 relay, where the team secured a regional third‑place finish, underscoring his versatility across sprint events.
Coach Casey Russell repeatedly highlighted McGuire's work ethic and dedication, noting that the athlete's commitment set a standard for teammates both on the track and in the locker room. Russell's praise reflected a broader recognition of McGuire's impact on the program's culture and competitive edge.
Football Finale and College Choice
McGuire also concluded a noteworthy high school football career as the team's quarterback, finishing with 408 rushing yards and five touchdowns, plus 712 passing yards and six scores. His statistical output earned first‑team All‑Central State Activities Association Red Division honors. After weighing options at Alma College and Adrian College, he elected to continue his football trajectory at Albion College, where he plans to focus on quarterback responsibilities at the collegiate level.
Looking ahead, McGuire expressed confidence that his blend of speed, strategic insight and leadership will translate to the college field. The transition to Albion represents not only a new chapter in his athletic career but also an opportunity to contribute to a program with a strong tradition of developing versatile players.
