Hurricanes Prepare for 2026 Season
The Huntingtown Hurricanes are set to kick off the 2026 campaign as the reigning Class 2A state champions, a status that brings both anticipation and a fresh set of challenges.
Head coach Paul Friel, now in his tenth year at the helm, stresses that the team’s focus will be on becoming the best athletes, the most conditioned players, and the smartest players on the field.
Last season the squad was one of the youngest in the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference, and many of those underclassmen have now earned valuable experience that should translate into larger roles this year.
Friel says the priority is to improve consistency and cut down on the fundamental mistakes that proved costly in a few games, while still embracing the aggressive style that helped them capture the title.
The schedule pits the Hurricanes against familiar conference rivals such as Calvert, Northern and Patuxent, promising tightly contested matchups that will test the team’s depth and resilience.
Beyond the field, the Huntingtown community continues to rally behind the program, providing a supportive backdrop that players say fuels their drive.
