Ian Schieffelin, a former Clemson basketball star who also spent a brief stint on the Tigers' football roster, is set to compete in the NBA Summer League with the Miami Heat this July.
A Dual‑Sport Background
At Clemson, Schieffelin cemented his reputation as one of the program’s most prolific rebounders. He earned second‑team All‑ACC honors and finished his college career with more than 1,000 points and nearly 900 rebounds, climbing to seventh on the school’s all‑time rebounding list.
His final season saw him average 12.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists across 34 games, a performance that helped the Tigers secure a strong record.
A Short Football Experiment
In an unusual move, Schieffelin joined Clemson’s football team as a tight end, appearing in eight games and recording two catches for 10 yards before focusing on basketball.
Despite the limited gridiron time, the experience underscored his athleticism and versatility, traits that the Heat hope to translate to the hardwood.
The Heat’s Summer League schedule begins on July 3 against the San Antonio Spurs, followed by a July 11 matchup with the Orlando Magic that will be streamed on Prime. Both games will give Schieffelin a national platform to prove he belongs at the next level.
Coaches and executives will be watching closely as he attempts to convert his collegiate rebounding dominance into NBA‑ready impact.
