A Defensive Anchor Arrives
Pitt Panthers men's basketball has announced the addition of Ibrahim Souare, a 6‑foot‑9 forward from Guinea, who brings a blend of size, shot‑blocking and interior defense to the program.
During the 2025‑26 season at Syracuse, Souare appeared in 29 games and recorded 18 blocks, showcasing his ability to protect the rim. The following year at Georgia Tech he averaged 2.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while continuing to develop his offensive game.
Souare will enter his redshirt junior season in 2026‑27 with two years of eligibility remaining. He previously turned in a career‑high nine points and 12 rebounds in a triple‑overtime win over Clemson on February 4, 2025, highlighting his potential to impact games in multiple ways.
After a prep stint at Canyon International Academy in Arizona, the forward will reunite with point guard Naithan George, his former backcourt partner at both Georgia Tech and Syracuse. The familiar chemistry should help integrate him quickly into Pitt's system.
Coaching staff and fans alike anticipate that Souare's defensive presence will bolster the Panthers' interior and add depth as they aim for a stronger ACC campaign. His experience across three ACC programs makes him a valuable piece as Pitt looks to build on recent progress.
