Idaho Soccer opened its season with a 2-0 loss to Hawaii at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Saturday. The match marked the first meeting of the year between the two sides and set the tone for a competitive campaign ahead.
A Tight Contest at Waipio Peninsula
Hawaii struck first in the 12th minute when Anuhea Aluli converted a pass from Piper Bertani, putting the home team ahead. Idaho responded with a flurry of attacks, generating eight shots and three on target before the break, but could not find an equalizer.
The second half saw Olivia Dianda extend Hawaii's lead, finishing a move that began with a midfield pass. Idaho continued to press, with Sara Rodgers, Makenna Stuart, Payton Oelkers and Quinn Mueller each contributing multiple attempts, including three shots on goal, yet Hawaii's defense held firm.
Despite outshot the visitors 17-7 overall, Idaho's conversion rate was low, with six shots on goal and only two goals conceded. Goalkeeper Jeremy Clevenger made several key saves, but the Vandals could not mount a comeback before the final whistle.
The match also marked the end of the Hawaii slate for Jeremy Clevenger and his teammates, who will next travel to South Dakota for upcoming fixtures. Idaho will host CSU Bakersfield on August 27 at 7:00 p.m. at the Kibbie Dome, hoping to rebound from the early setback.
