A Strategic Addition to BU's Coaching Roster
Boston University has named Ike Hermer as its new assistant coach for the upcoming 2026-27 men's basketball season, a move that signals the program's intent to bolster its tactical depth and player development pipeline.
Hemer arrives after a stint with the Osceola Magic, the G-League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, where he contributed to two Eastern Conference regular-season titles and a G-League Finals appearance during a two-year period that saw the team finish with a 53-24 record.
Prior to his professional experience, Hermer served as an assistant coach and director of basketball operations at the University of Northern Iowa, guiding the Panthers to back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championships and an NIT berth while mentoring NBA guard AJ Green.
His collegiate coaching continued at the University of Minnesota, where he worked under Richard Pitino, helping to shape prospects Amir Coffey and Daniel Oturu before earning his degrees in marketing and applied kinesiology.
Hemer's blend of professional and collegiate expertise is expected to enrich BU's strategic approach, offering players a perspective that bridges elite development with innovative game planning.
