A New Chapter for BU Basketball
Boston University revealed this week that Ike Hermer will step onto its men’s basketball coaching staff for the upcoming 2026‑27 campaign, bringing a blend of collegiate and professional expertise to the program.
Hailing from a strong coaching lineage, Hermer previously served as assistant coach and player development specialist for the Osceola Magic, the G‑League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, where he contributed to two Eastern Conference regular‑season titles and a G‑League Finals appearance, compiling a 53‑24 record over two seasons.
Before that, he spent five years at the University of Northern Iowa, first as director of basketball operations and then as assistant coach, helping the Panthers capture two Missouri Valley Conference regular‑season championships and secure an NIT berth, while also mentoring NBA prospect AJ Green.
Earlier in his career, Hermer worked under Richard Pitino at the University of Minnesota, where he assisted in two NCAA Tournament appearances and helped develop players such as Amir Coffey and Daniel Oturu.
A 2015 graduate in marketing and a 2017 holder of a master’s in applied kinesiology from Minnesota, Hermer combines analytical insight with on‑court acumen, positioning BU’s program for continued growth.
