Russian forward Ilia Frolov has pledged to join the Arkansas Razorbacks for the upcoming season, bringing a 6‑foot‑11 frame and a versatile skill set to John Calipari’s program.
Frolov, who spent the last year with Real Madrid’s Under‑22 side, posted 13.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while shooting 52.8% from the field and 36% beyond the arc, numbers that caught the attention of Arkansas staff during a recent evaluation visit.
A Strategic Addition
The commitment, announced on June 18, underscores the Razorbacks’ strategy of bolstering frontcourt depth with international talent as they prepare for a grueling stretch of exhibition games in The Bahamas.
He will share the paint with fellow newcomers Miikka Muurinen, a five‑star Finnish recruit expected to start, as well as returning big men Cooper Bowser, Paulo Semedo and the emerging talents of Trevon Brazile, Jordan Smith Jr., Abdou Toure, JJ Andrews and Davion Thompson.
Calipari highlighted the player’s work ethic and defensive instincts, noting that Frolov’s ability to protect the rim and contribute steals aligns with the team’s defensive identity.
Arkansas will open its overseas schedule with four contests in five days against international opposition, a test that could shape the Razorbacks’ chemistry heading into the regular season.
