A Global Talent Joins the Ranks
Lana Brenjo, a 6‑foot‑4-inch freshman from Nevesinje, Bosnia, has officially signed a Big Ten Athletics Aid Agreement with the University of Illinois. She will don the orange and blue for the 2026‑27 season, marking the fifth international player to join the Fighting Illini women's basketball roster.
Before arriving in Champaign, Brenjo honed her game with ŽKK Mega Superbet in Serbia's top league, where she helped the club to a 16‑8 record in the 2025‑26 campaign. Her performances earned her regular call‑ups to the Serbian national team, including appearances at multiple FIBA U18 and U16 Women's Eurobasket tournaments.
Brenjo also logged minutes for Feniks W in Bosnia and Herzegovina's Prvenstvo BiH Women's league, showcasing versatility across both domestic and international stages. In the 2025‑26 season she posted averages of 7.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, numbers that illustrate her well‑rounded contributions.
Coach Shauna Green expressed enthusiasm about the new addition, highlighting Brenjo's size, international pedigree and the fresh perspective she brings to the program. "We’re excited to welcome Lana to Illinois," Green said, "her experience on the world stage will enrich our culture and elevate our competitiveness."
Brenjo cited the university's supportive environment as a key factor in her decision, noting that she looks forward to learning, competing and becoming an integral part of the Illinois community. Her arrival signals a continued commitment to recruiting talent that can thrive both on and off the court.
