A recruiting renaissance
Under Brad Underwood, the Illinois Fighting Illini have shattered a two-decade drought in landing five-star talent, a shift that has reignited excitement around the program and propelled it back into national conversation.
The first marquee signees, Quentin Coleman and Will Riley, arrived in the 2024 class and have already validated the coach’s recruiting blueprint, ranking among the program’s highest-rated recruits since the early 2000s.
Visits on the horizon
The Illini are set to host official visits from Darius Wabbington and NaVorro Bowman Jr., two of the most coveted prospects in the 2027 class. Wabbington sits at No. 15 nationally and is the top center in his cohort, while Bowman Jr. is ranked No. 11 and touted as the best combo guard of his year.
Both players could push Illinois to four five-star commitments over the past four recruiting cycles, a depth that might translate into a top-five team for the 2026-27 season. The projected starting five for 2027-28 could feature Bowman Jr., Quinton Kitt, Lucas Morillo, Zavier Zens and Wabbington, forming a foundation for future success.
The coming roster turnover will see veterans such as Andrej Stojakovic and Tomislav Ivisic depart, while Coleman is expected to test the NBA draft after his sophomore year. New arrivals like David Mirkovic and Stefan Vaaks are slated to join the squad, adding depth as the program prepares for the next chapter.
