Eight classes will each welcome 48 teams into the playoffs, swelling the total number of qualifying squads from 256 to 384. The change follows a December vote by member schools to broaden postseason access and accommodate growing participation across Illinois.
A nine‑week regular season will determine which teams earn those spots, with the qualifying teams to be announced in a live broadcast at 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 17. This schedule ensures that regular‑season performance remains the primary criterion for advancement.
Playoff Bracket and State Finals Schedule
The postseason begins with the Opening Round on October 23‑24, followed by the First Round on October 30‑31, the Second Round on November 6‑7, and the Quarterfinals on November 13‑14. The Semifinals are set for November 20‑21, culminating in the IHSA Football State Finals at Hancock Stadium in Normal on November 27‑28, where eight championship games will be played.
