Rising Stars on the Line
The 2025 season will be remembered as a breakout year for Illinois high school football’s interior talent. A five‑part series spotlighting the region’s most influential linemen reveals how individual excellence translated into team triumphs, with each prospect leaving a distinct imprint on the field.
Offensive line anchors such as Caden Castleman of El Paso‑Gridley, a 6‑foot‑2, 225‑pound junior, powered the Titans to a 12‑1 record and a Class 2A semifinal berth. Soren Fifer, the 6‑foot‑6, 300‑pound senior from Morton, helped the Potters post a 7‑4 season and reach the Class 5A second round, contributing to a staggering 53 touchdowns. Evan Grove at Metamora, Aaden Hasty from East Peoria, Kingston Smith of Dunlap and Noah Tockes of Peoria Notre Dame each added size, technique and relentless drive, fueling rushing attacks that averaged more than 300 yards per game.
Defensively, the same era was defined by dominant front‑seven performers. Kendrick Owens of Peoria High recorded 16 sacks, allowing his team to hold opponents to 14 points or fewer on five occasions. Harlin Toillion, a junior from El Paso‑Gridley, tallied 70 tackles and a team‑high 13.5 tackles for loss, while Kemarri Jackson, a 6‑foot‑3, 275‑pound senior from Peoria High, was a key catalyst in a high‑scoring Lions offense that averaged 48.8 points per game.
The series, arranged alphabetically, not only celebrates statistical achievements but also underscores the cultural impact of these players within their communities. Coaches and teammates alike point to their work ethic as a blueprint for the next generation, and scouts are already tracking their progress as they prepare for the 2026 season, where many expect to see even more refined performances and perhaps college scholarships on the horizon.
