A Scholarly Surge on the Court
The University of Illinois women's basketball program has once again distinguished itself, not only for its play on the hardwood but also for its scholarly achievements.
During the 2025‑26 academic year the team posted a combined grade point average of 3.624, the highest among all Big Ten Conference programs for the third consecutive season.
Coach Shauna Green, who has led the Illini for several seasons, praised the student‑athletes for balancing competition with classroom excellence, noting that their commitment reflects the program’s broader mission.
The Women's Basketball Coaches Association recognized the Illini with a Special Mention in its 2025‑26 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll, a distinction that celebrates squads maintaining a collective GPA of at least 3.0 across NCAA Divisions I, II, III, NAIA and two‑year colleges.
Illinois' 3.624 GPA placed it 34th in Division I, just outside the Top 25, yet it remained the conference’s leading GPA, outpacing peers such as Wisconsin, UCLA, Minnesota, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Washington, Rutgers, USC and Iowa.
A Legacy of Leadership
Since Coach Green’s arrival, the Illini have captured special‑mention recognition in each of her four seasons, and the program set a school record with a 3.69 GPA in the spring semester of 2026.
The acknowledgment not only celebrates the current roster but also signals a sustained culture where athletic ambition and academic rigor reinforce each other, positioning Illinois as a model for other programs seeking similar distinction.
