A Dual Championship Celebration
Immaculate Heart High School is basking in the glow of two remarkable sporting achievements that have resonated across the campus and the wider community, highlighting the school's growing athletic prestige.
The varsity girls' fencing team secured its third straight Women’s Foil State Championship and finished as the Overall State Runner‑Up, a testament to both depth and senior leadership. Seniors Rosie Lay and Grace Suarez anchored the effort, with Lay placing third in Foil and seventh in Épée, and Suarez finishing 16th in Foil. Both athletes will continue their fencing careers at the collegiate level, Lay at Brandeis University and Suarez at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
On the soccer field, the IH Varsity Girls' team captured the CIF Southern Section District 4 Championship in dramatic fashion, prevailing in a penalty‑kick shootout that will be remembered for its intensity. Freshman goalkeeper Rio Belknap delivered a standout performance, preserving the lead when it mattered most. The victory marks the school's first ever CIF championship title, a milestone that Athletic Director Kevin Cadenas described as the result of extraordinary focus and determination.
Coach Carla Corbit of the Beverly Hills Fencers Club was publicly acknowledged for her dedication and expertise, underscoring the collaborative ecosystem that nurtures talent at Immaculate Heart. The celebrations also extend to the broader neighborhood, from West Hills to Larchmont Village and Glendale, where the school's athletes are celebrated as role models.
