Indiana University’s men’s basketball program has announced the addition of Sam Alexis to its roster for the upcoming FISU America Games, a tournament that showcases emerging talent from across the Western Hemisphere.
Alexis, a former Hoosier who most recently competed in the NBA Summer League with the Oklahoma City Thunder, arrived in Peru on Tuesday morning and is slated to start the team’s first game against the Virgin Islands on Thursday.
A Strategic Boost
Coach Mike Woodson highlighted Alexis’s defensive versatility, noting his 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game in the summer league as qualities that could strengthen the Hoosiers’ interior presence.
The squad will also be without SMU transfer Samet Yigitoglu, who has been training with the group but remains ineligible to represent Team USA at the event, and freshman signee Clemens Sokolov, who is not expected to join the roster until August.
Opening Match
Indiana opens the group stage on Tuesday night against Peru, a match that will set the tone for the team’s campaign in the tournament.
The game against the Virgin Islands follows on Thursday, giving the Hoosiers a chance to build chemistry before the next round of competition.
