Indiana University’s men’s basketball program is buzzing after head coach Darian DeVries announced a transfer class that tops national rankings for the 2026 cycle.
A Recruiting Surge
The class, which features seven newcomers, six of whom come from high‑major programs, has been placed at No. 6 in the ESPN transfer‑class rankings, trailing only Tennessee, Louisville, Texas, Kentucky, St. John’s and a handful of other powerhouses.
Only sophomore forward Trent Sisley returns from last season’s roster, leaving the team with a largely fresh slate and a heavy reliance on incoming talent.
Among the arrivals are point guard Markus Burton, a dynamic playmaker; wing Bryce Lindsay; big men Aiden Sherrell and Samet Yigitoglu, both highly coveted in the portal; and sharpshooters Jaeden Mustaf, Justin Monden and Darren Harris. Each brings a different skill set that could reshape the Hoosiers’ identity.
The influx comes as the NCAA debates a five‑year eligibility extension that, if approved, would grant many of these players an additional year of competition in 2028‑29, potentially extending the impact of this class.
Coach DeVries, who has guided the program through two consecutive trips to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, emphasized development over portal dependence, noting that the current roster includes 11 of 12 scholarship players who are eligible to return in 2027‑28.
Analyst Jeff Borzello has praised the class for its depth, pointing out that the Hoosiers’ No. 6 ranking reflects a blend of proven performers and high‑upside freshmen who arrived on campus this month.
