Indiana’s basketball program entered the 2025‑26 campaign as a three‑point shooting team that ranked 14th nationally in volume but managed only a 34.7% conversion rate, placing it 131st in efficiency.
The limited versatility of that shooting pool forced the Hoosiers to rely heavily on a handful of specialists, which in turn compressed their offensive options and made the team vulnerable on nights when the ball refused to drop.
Head coach Darian DeVries has repeatedly emphasized that the upcoming 2026‑27 roster will bring a deeper cache of shooters, a development he believes will reshape the team’s identity on the court.
Among the newcomers, transfer Darren Harris from Duke has drawn particular attention after impressing during early workouts, with coaches hinting at the possibility of a breakout season. Alongside him, returning standouts such as Markus Burton, Bryce Lindsay, Jaeden Mustaf and Aiden Sherrell are expected to add both volume and variety to the perimeter attack.
DeVries argues that this expanded shooting repertoire will do more than boost percentages; it will stretch defenses, open driving lanes and create more interior scoring chances for players who can attack the rim.
The coaching staff also projects that Samet Yigitoglu and Clemens Sokolov will remain the primary non‑shooters in the rotation, underscoring the contrast between the newfound depth and the previous season’s scarcity.
