Indiana Field Hockey Faces Overtime Defeat
The Indiana Field Hockey squad opened its season with a pair of setbacks, the latest a 2-1 loss to the Louisville Cardinals that stretched into overtime. The match began with Louisville drawing first blood in the 26th minute, forcing Indiana to chase the game.
Indiana answered in the fourth quarter when Celia Arroyo Cabezudo struck, leveling the score at 1-1 and sparking a surge of hope among the Hoosiers. The equalizer shifted momentum and set the stage for a dramatic finish.
But the contest was not decided in regulation. In the 72nd minute Louisville earned a penalty stroke and converted it, sealing a 2-1 victory and leaving Indiana at 0-2 on the season.
Goalkeeper Emily Young was busy between the posts, making several saves, while outfield players such as Javi Baeza and Hannah Riddle generated early chances that were denied by the Louisville defense.
Molly Stutte contributed four of five shots on goal, and Charlotte Glasper led the team with five attempts, followed by Inés Garcia Prado and Berta Saenz de Santa Maria, though none of those chances found the back of the net. Celia Arroyo Cabezudo, Gabriela Garayo Aranceta and Aubreigh Uba also tested the defense, but Louisville’s backline held firm.
Indiana’s next test arrives on September 4, when they host New Hampshire at home in Bloomington, Indiana, aiming to turn the tide and secure their first win of the season.
