Indiana University’s football squad delivered a commanding 52-16 victory over North Texas, never trailing and scoring on eight of nine drives, a performance that showcased a balanced and explosive offense from the first snap.
Game highlights
Quarterback Josh Hoover, making his first appearance for the Hoosiers, was flawless, completing 13 of 16 passes for 231 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. A facemask penalty ripped his helmet off, yet he stayed in the game and added a rushing touchdown three plays later, underscoring his poise under pressure.
The offensive rhythm was relentless, with the unit averaging just five plays and 2:27 per possession, and each drive averaged 41 yards, reflecting a potent mix of passing and running that kept the defense off balance.
Multiple playmakers contributed to the onslaught: tight end Charlie Becker caught four passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns, while wide receiver Nick Marsh made a spectacular one‑handed grab for a score. Running back Turbo Richard added 58 rushing yards and a 38‑yard reception, illustrating the depth of Indiana’s skill set.
Special teams played a decisive role; kickoff returns gave the offense excellent field position, and kicker Nico Radicic nailed a career‑long 49‑yard field goal while converting all extra points. Punter Billy Gowers booted a 40‑yard punt that flipped field position, further energizing the Hoosiers.
Head coach Curt Cignetti praised Hoover’s rapid progress but pointed out that defensive lapses, particularly in tackling and extending possessions, remained a concern, especially with starting corners A.J. Harris and Jamari Sharpe sidelined.
Indiana will now travel to face Howard University next Saturday, with kickoff set for noon ET, aiming to carry the momentum from a dominant performance into the next challenge.
