A Revamped Midfield
Indiana's men's soccer program is shaping its 2026 campaign after a productive offseason that saw the departure of two pivotal midfielders, Palmer Ault and Jack Wagoner. Ault contributed 16 goals and 10 assists in a breakout year, earning All‑Big Ten first‑team honors and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, while Wagoner captained the side for four seasons, providing steady leadership.
To fill the void, the Hoosiers have added transfer portal standouts Wes Carnevale and Alex Matthews. Carnevale, who earned All‑Ivy League first‑team recognition at Cornell, tallied six goals and appeared in all 20 matches for the Big Red. Matthews brings NCAA Tournament experience and a Player of the Year award from his time in Derby County’s academy in England, adding both offensive flair and defensive reliability.
Returning players Jacopo Fedrizzi and Charlie Heuer give the squad additional depth. Fedrizzi, a redshirt junior, recorded three goals and four assists in 18 appearances last season, while Heuer made eight starts, contributing a goal and four assists in over 600 minutes of play.
Coach Todd Yeagley is expected to integrate the new midfield options into his starting eleven as the team opens the season with nonconference matches against Notre Dame, Butler and Louisville. The early schedule offers a chance for the revamped unit to gel quickly and generate momentum heading into Big Ten competition.
