Indiana University's football program has landed a major recruiting victory, securing a commitment from four-star defensive end Myles Smith, the top prospect in its 2027 class.
Smith, a 6-foot-4, 235-pound prospect from Farmington High School in Michigan, chose the Hoosiers over a crowded slate that included Oklahoma, Michigan, Missouri and Kentucky, giving him 22 scholarship offers.
The decision came after an official visit to Bloomington in May, and Smith becomes the first defensive lineman to pledge to Indiana in this recruiting cycle, underscoring the staff's targeted push to fortify the line.
A Defensive Line Poised for Growth
Coach Curt Cignetti has emphasized depth on the defensive front, noting that the team has added 11 signees over the past two seasons and integrated impact transfers such as Chiddi Obiazor and Tobi Osunsanmi from Kansas State.
Last year the Hoosiers topped the FBS in tackles for loss with 129 and ranked second nationally in sacks with 46, a performance that Cignetti says can translate into a dominant edge when the new recruits arrive.
