A once‑trusted leader of a youth baseball league in Indiana has been exposed for siphoning tens of thousands of dollars from the organization, casting a shadow over a program that had served local families for decades.
Sean Hopple, who served as president of Golfmoor Baseball from 2019 to 2023, and his wife Jessica Hopple, the league’s treasurer from 2012 to 2019 and concessions manager until 2023, held exclusive control over the group’s concessions account between January 2021 and September 2023.
The hidden ledger
During that period the couple funneled league money into personal purchases that included steak dinners, dog food, running shorts, Jeep seat covers and even an Xbox controller, according to court filings.
In 2024 Sean Hopple entered a guilty plea to a single count of theft, a Level 6 felony, and was sentenced to six months of probation while agreeing to repay $13,920.53 in restitution; two additional felony charges were dismissed as part of the plea bargain.
A civil lawsuit filed against the Hopples alleges that they diverted hundreds of thousands of dollars over more than a decade, accusing them of fraud, theft, breach of fiduciary duty and unjust enrichment, claims that have yet to be adjudicated.
The case has been complicated by the Hopples’ Chapter 13 bankruptcy filing in February 2025, which has stalled the civil proceedings and left many families wondering about the future of the league’s programs.
Community members say the revelations have shaken confidence in local youth sports organizations, prompting calls for stricter oversight and transparency in nonprofit finances.
