Iowa and Kansas will meet on October 10 for an exhibition baseball game on the famed Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa, a site that has become a pilgrimage spot for fans of the sport and the 1989 film that immortalized it.
The corn‑laden field, where Kevin Costner chased his baseball‑loving dream alongside Ray Liotta, James Earl Jones and Amy Madigan, first captured the imagination of a generation in the late 1980s. Since 2021 the location has hosted a string of high‑profile contests, ranging from Major League Baseball’s annual showcase to collegiate showcase games that give teams a chance to fine‑tune before the regular season.
A Historic Matchup
Kansas arrives with momentum after capturing the Big 12 regular‑season and tournament titles and advancing to an NCAA super regional, while Iowa, a perennial Big Ten Tournament participant, finished the season at 33‑23 and earned its eleventh straight appearance in that conference event. Both programs are taking advantage of a NCAA rule that permits Division I schools to schedule two fall exhibition games each year.
The exhibition will not be the only baseball action at the site this summer. On August 13 the field will welcome a regular‑season MLB matchup between the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies, and earlier in August the Iowa Cubs will host the St. Paul Saints in a Triple‑A clash. These events underscore the growing blend of professional, collegiate and minor‑league baseball under the iconic sky.
The game is being coordinated by the Iowa Athletic Department in partnership with Major League Baseball and the National Collegiate Athletic Association, organizations that have helped shape the logistics and broadcasting of the event.
