The Iowa Hawkeyes and the UConn Huskies have announced a two-year home-and-home series that will see the two powerhouse women’s basketball programs meet in the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons. UConn will host Iowa at either the Gampel Pavilion in Storrs or the Peoples Bank Arena in Hartford, while Iowa will welcome the Huskies to Iowa City for the following year. Game times and exact dates are still being finalized, but the matchups promise another chapter in a rivalry that has produced memorable contests in recent years.
The series adds to a long-standing competition that dates back to a 73-45 victory by UConn over Iowa in 1999, and a narrow 71-69 win by the Hawkeyes over the Huskies in the 2024 NCAA semifinals in Cleveland. Last season, UConn answered with a 90-64 rout of then-No. 11 Iowa on Dec. 20, 2025, underscoring the competitive balance between the programs.
A Rivalry Renewed
Coached by Geno Auriemma, who has guided UConn to 12 national championships over his 41-year tenure, the Huskies enter the agreement with a tradition of excellence. Iowa, led by head coach Lisa Bluder and star guard Caitlin Clark, brings a dynamic style that has drawn national attention. The upcoming meetings are expected to further elevate the profile of women’s college basketball and provide fans with high-stakes matchups.
