A weekend of triumphs
The 2026 AAU Junior Olympic Games in Iowa City, Iowa, wrapped up its field hockey competition over the weekend, crowning champions in the under‑16 and under‑18 divisions. Six teams battled for the younger bracket while five competed in the older, delivering fast‑paced matches that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.
Pathways to the national stage
Athletes earned their spots through the Nexus Regional Selection Camps, a gateway that has become the de facto route to the national showcase. USA Field Hockey took the opportunity to thank the players, coaches, umpires and umpire managers whose contributions kept the tournament running smoothly, while the University of Iowa’s facilities staff provided essential logistical support.
Looking ahead to Houston
In recognition of exemplary skill and sportsmanship, the Joel Ferrell Outstanding Performance Memorial Award was presented, highlighting the tournament’s emphasis on character as much as competition. Organizers have already turned their attention to the 2027 AAU Junior Olympic Games, scheduled for Houston, Texas, though exact dates remain pending.
