A Vision for the Future of Iowa Field Hockey
The University of Iowa is moving forward with a comprehensive plan to upgrade its field hockey infrastructure, announcing an $8.65 million operations building adjacent to Grant Field that will house locker rooms, coaches’ offices, a film room, conference space and an athletic training room.
Funded entirely by private donors, the project reflects the program’s storied legacy — 211 Big Ten victories since 1981, 30 NCAA Tournament appearances, and a national championship in 1986 — and aims to provide student‑athletes with facilities that match their competitive standards.
Construction is slated to begin this summer, with completion targeted for the summer of 2027, ensuring the team can continue practicing and competing at Grant Field throughout the build.
Modernizing Carver‑Hawkeye Arena
In parallel, the university plans a $50 million to $70 million renovation of Carver‑Hawkeye Arena, the home court that opened in 1983.
The upgrade will introduce premium seating, club spaces, upgraded concourses, concessions, restrooms and a refreshed seating bowl, all designed to improve accessibility, fan comfort and the overall game‑day atmosphere while preserving the arena’s home‑court advantage.
Phased implementation will allow the venue to host athletic events and major concerts with minimal disruption, and the renovation will be financed through private gifts, aligning with the university’s tradition of community‑driven support.
Both initiatives underscore the university’s commitment to excellence in athletics and student experience, leveraging its status as the Big Ten’s winningest field hockey program and its rich history of championships, All‑Americans and conference titles.
