A Council of Emerging Leaders
The University of Iowa football program has revealed its 2026 Leadership Council, a group of seventeen players chosen to steer policy discussions and shape team decisions throughout the upcoming season.
The council reflects a blend of experience and youthful energy, comprising one graduate student, seven seniors, seven juniors and two sophomores, each bringing a distinct perspective to the table.
Selection involved input from both the coaching staff and the players themselves, ensuring that those who will represent the Hawkeyes are those who earn the respect of peers and mentors alike.
Beyond the locker room, the council will meet regularly to evaluate performance, suggest adjustments to training regimens and help craft the strategic direction that the team will follow.
Fans will notice a notable opening stretch: the Hawkeyes open the 2026 campaign with three consecutive home games, beginning with a matchup against Northern Illinois on September 5.
Head coach Kirk Ferentz praised the group, noting that their leadership will be vital as the team looks to build momentum early in the season.
