Andrew McKeever, a 7‑foot‑3 center who transferred from Saint Mary's, has officially joined the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball program, adding a rare combination of size and rebounding to the Big Ten squad.
A Rebounding Machine
During his most recent season he posted averages of 8.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, topped the West Coast Conference with 302 total boards, and holds the conference’s all‑time record for career rebound percentage.
McKeever said his decision came after weighing several suitors, including Cincinnati, Michigan, UConn and Purdue, but the Hawkeyes offered the most compelling blend of facilities, coaching and conference play.
A Boost for the Hawkeyes
Coach Ben McCollum highlighted the player's work ethic and the impact he will have in the paint, noting that McKeever's skill set dovetails perfectly with Iowa's up‑tempo system.
The center also credited his high school coach and former Saint Mary's mentor Randy Bennett for shaping his rebounding instincts, a influence he says will continue to guide his game at Iowa.
Big Ten Debut
McKeever will soon sit down with Iowa’s longtime radio voice Gary Dolphin to discuss the move and what he plans to bring to Iowa City, marking his first opportunity to speak publicly about the transition to a high‑major conference schedule.
Fans can expect to see the 7‑footer make his first appearances in Hawkeye uniforms during the upcoming non‑conference slate, setting the stage for a highly anticipated Big Ten debut.
