The USA TODAY Network has released its 2026 Big Ten preseason poll, a snapshot that will shape expectations as the conference prepares for media days.
Ohio State emerges as the clear favorite, earning 11 first‑place votes and positioning itself to capture the conference title, while Oregon follows with five first‑place votes and Indiana rounds out the top three as the reigning national champion.
Iowa, listed at eighth, will look to build on last season’s success despite having to replace three starting offensive linemen who were all drafted into the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Hawkeyes’ interior line will feature returning starters Kade Pieper and Trevor Lauck, both of whom earned preseason All‑Big Ten honors after anchoring a Joe Moore Award‑winning unit last year.
Hawkeye standouts earn preseason accolades
Defensive back Zach Lutmer also received preseason recognition, having led Iowa with three interceptions — including a pick‑six against Minnesota — and will serve as one of the team’s player representatives at the upcoming media sessions.
At the same event, tight end DJ Vonnahme was named honorable mention on the USA TODAY All‑Big Ten team, having topped the Hawkeyes in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns, including a strong finish with 370 yards over the final five games of the 2025 season.
With media days approaching, the Hawkeyes’ coaching staff and players will use the spotlight to discuss roster changes, integrate new talent, and outline strategies for a conference that remains competitive across the board.
