A Milestone in Sioux City
Iowa basketball will step onto the court in Sioux City for the first time on Nov. 10, when the Hawkeyes host Virginia Tech at the Tyson Events Center. The matchup represents the fifth all‑time meeting between the programs, the first since 2017, and marks the debut of a neutral‑site arrangement that brings the game to western Iowa.
Head coach Ben McCollum said the event is part of a broader strategy to schedule in‑state neutral‑site contests against Power Conference opponents. "It’s an exciting opportunity to showcase our program in a new market while giving fans a chance to experience a high‑level game close to home," McCollum noted.
The game is one of three such neutral‑site contests on Iowa’s nonconference slate, which also includes trips to Des Moines to face Creighton and Alabama. Ticket sales for the Sioux City showdown will open on Friday, June 26, at 10 a.m. CT, with pricing and availability to be announced through the university’s ticketing platforms.
Broadcast details, including the television network and start time, will be released later, but the matchup is already generating buzz among fans of both schools. Virginia Tech holds a 4‑0 advantage in the series, having won all three previous meetings in Blacksburg, Virginia.
The upcoming contest adds a new chapter to a rivalry that has largely been played on the Hokies’ home floor. With the Hawkeyes preparing to make their first appearance in Sioux City, the game promises a fresh atmosphere and a chance for Iowa to shift the momentum of a series that has favored Virginia Tech to date.
