A New Chapter for Iowa Women's Basketball
The University of Iowa women's basketball program has turned its attention to the upcoming 2026‑27 campaign, a season that promises fresh energy after the recent arrival of six promising newcomers.
Each of the newcomers has been assigned a number that carries a story within the Hawkeyes' recent history. Joycelyn Faison will wear No. 0, a numeral that has never before been used by a Iowa women's basketball player, marking a symbolic first. Dani Carnegie inherits the No. 3 that Sydney Affolter wore in 2025, while Ella Strömdahl takes the No. 7 once sported by Addie Deal last season. Amari Whiting will don the No. 15 that Lauren Jensen wore in 2021, McKenna Woliczko will carry the No. 20 previously held by Kate Martin in 2024, and Bria Medina will sport the No. 50 last seen on Gabby Machado in 2010.
The selections reflect a deliberate effort to connect the new class with the program's recent achievements, allowing each player to build upon the foundation laid by those who preceded them.
Honoring the Past While Building the Future
As the Hawkeyes prepare to open the 2026‑27 season, the jersey numbers serve not only as identifiers but as tributes to a lineage of excellence. The incoming players are poised to add their own chapters to a storied program, and the university community looks forward to witnessing how these historic digits will be embraced on the hardwood.
