Class 4A and 3A Lead the Pack
The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association has unveiled its final 2023 rankings, crowning Sioux City East as the premier Class 4A program with a 37‑2 record and Dubuque Wahlert Catholic as the top Class 3A team at 30‑5.
Sioux City East’s success stems from a deep lineup that features several prospects headed to NCAA Division I programs, giving the team a strong chance to extend its season deep into the tournament.
In Class 3A, Dubuque Wahlert Catholic holds the summit, bolstered by a balanced roster that blends power hitting with solid pitching, positioning it as a favorite in the upcoming substate matchups.
The rankings also spotlight the next tier of competition, with Cedar Rapids Prairie, Indianola, Waukee and Cedar Rapids Kennedy filling out the top five in Class 4A, while Marion, Carlisle, Cedar Rapids Xavier Catholic and North Polk round out the top five in Class 3A.
Postseason play is already underway for the lower classifications, and the higher classes will soon begin district and substate contests that will determine which teams advance to the state tournament.
