The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA) has announced the 40th edition of its All-Academic Teams, a program that spotlights senior athletes who demonstrate a rare blend of scholarly achievement, moral integrity, and on‑field prowess. The honor, now a staple of the state’s baseball calendar, underscores the association’s commitment to developing well‑rounded leaders.
From the KNIA/KRLS listening area, nine local players earned spots on the first and second teams. First‑team selections include Asher Brueck, Lincoln Card, Staton Major, and Colton Wight, while second‑team honorees are Samuel Carlson, Zach Dobson, Jack Bowlin, Caylor Jones, and Logan Roff. Their inclusion reflects not only statistical excellence but also the character traits the association seeks to promote.
Beyond the academic accolades, the association has also released the rosters for the 2026 IHSBCA All-Star Series, a showcase that brings together Iowa’s top senior talent for a three‑day competition. The event will take place in Cedar Rapids from July 30 through August 1, offering prospects a chance to display their skills in front of college recruiters and state coaches.
The All-Star Series is divided into regional squads that reflect the state’s diverse baseball landscape. Small Schools West will be represented by Travis White and Colton Wight of Martensdale‑St. Mary’s, while Small Schools East features Kyler Gifford from Knoxville and Jaiden Richards of Lynnville‑Sully. Large Schools West includes Bryant Ritchie from Indianola, rounding out a field that highlights the breadth of talent across Iowa’s high school programs.
For many of the honorees, the recognition marks the culmination of a multi‑year journey that combined rigorous academics with demanding practice schedules. Coaches and teachers alike have praised these students for their discipline, noting that the balance of study and sport often requires meticulous time management and unwavering focus.
