Iowa Hawkeyes have secured a verbal commitment from Bariyus Allen, a three‑star defensive lineman out of Dayton, Ohio, who will join the program’s 2027 recruiting class. Allen announced his decision on Tuesday, citing the coaching staff’s vision and the opportunity to contribute early as factors in his choice.
A Recruit With Proven Production
Ranked No. 612 overall and No. 23 among Ohio prospects in the 247Sports 2027 composite, Allen chose Iowa over Boston College, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo, Western Kentucky and several other programs. His junior season at Dayton High School was marked by 73 tackles, 20.5 tackles for a loss and six sacks, earning him Defensive Player of the Year in the Dayton Public Schools and a spot on the 2025 Division II All‑Ohio Third Team.
Beyond his defensive work, Allen also saw action at tight end and offensive tackle, showcasing his versatility. He posted a 4.9‑second 40‑yard dash, lifted 500 pounds in the deadlift and ran a 12.5‑second 100‑meter dash, underscoring his athletic upside.
A Growing Defensive Line Core
Allen becomes the third defensive line commit in Iowa’s 2027 class, following the earlier pledges of Tommy Riordan and Jerrence Knoblock. The trio signals the Hawkeyes’ intent to fortify the interior of their defensive front and could shape the team’s scheme in the coming years.
