Iowa State football’s roster has reached its final form after the addition of Tulane transfer Arnold Barnes III, who put pen to paper on May 19, completing a recruiting cycle that had been delayed by inclement weather during his official visit.
A Run‑Heavy Vision Takes Shape
Barnes arrives with a proven track record, having amassed 757 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 161 carries last season, and he capped his sophomore campaign with 402 yards and six scores on just 87 attempts.
Head coach Jimmy Rogers expressed confidence in the new backfield, highlighting the blend of experience and youthful energy that Barnes brings alongside returning runners Aiden Flora and Cameron Pettaway.
The Cyclones plan to lean heavily on a run‑heavy scheme this year, a strategy Rogers believes will control the tempo, open play‑action opportunities, and wear down opposing defenses.
Depth at the position is further reinforced by walk‑ons Easton Miller and Wyatt Archer, as well as incoming freshmen Caleb Francois and Gabriel Wilson, giving the staff multiple options as they shape the depth chart.
Ryver Peppers, still recovering from a season‑ending injury, is expected to return to full health and add another dimension once he shakes off the rust.
Coach Rogers also values the endorsement of Omari Hayes, a former Tulane teammate who spoke highly of Barnes’s work ethic, reinforcing the belief that the transfer will thrive in Ames.
With Barnes projected to crack the top three on the depth chart, the Cyclones hope his blend of power and perseverance will help the offense dominate the line of scrimmage and translate into more consistent victories.
