Jimmy Rogers has taken the reins of the Iowa State Cyclones with a clear blueprint: dominate at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Under that philosophy, Rogers recently extended a scholarship to three‑star edge defender Sione Taueli, a prospect whose rating of 88 on both Rivals and 247Sports places him among the most coveted recruits in the 2028 class. The offer comes as the Cyclones position themselves as a serious contender for Taueli’s signature, even as Arizona Wildcats, Northern Arizona Lumberjacks and Washington State Cougars circle the same player.

Current projections give Arizona a 39 percent likelihood of landing Taueli, while Iowa State’s chances sit at 34.1 percent. Ranked No. 370 nationally and No. 8 within Arizona, Taueli would represent a significant addition to the Cyclones’ defensive line, a unit Rogers believes can become a hallmark of his tenure.
The coaching staff’s outreach has not stopped there. Four‑star defensive lineman Jayden McKinney, another target of Rogers, is reportedly leaning toward the Cyclones, and a recent visit by Hendrix Dawson left the prospect impressed by the new coaching staff and the atmosphere in Ames. Such interactions reinforce the narrative that Iowa State is building a competitive roster through strategic recruiting.
As the recruiting cycle progresses, the Cyclones’ emphasis on line play and their ability to attract top talent from across the country suggest a program poised for a resurgence.
