Sun Prairie native launches second annual youth football camp
Addison Ostrenga, a tight end for the University of Iowa, returned to his hometown of Sun Prairie this weekend to run the second edition of his youth football camp. The event, held on a local high school field, drew dozens of children eager to learn from a college player who grew up on the same fields.
The camp’s curriculum emphasized agility drills, position-specific work and a final scrimmage that let the youngsters apply what they’d learned in a game‑like setting. Participants ranged from third to eighth grade, a range that Ostrenga says mirrors the age span that once shaped his own development.
All money raised during the camp will be funneled to the Sun Prairie East and Sun Prairie West high school football programs, a partnership that underscores Ostrenga’s commitment to giving back to the community that helped him early on.
Reflecting on his own childhood, Ostrenga recalled the profound effect that youth camps had on his passion for the sport. “Those experiences taught me more than just technique; they taught me love for the game,” he said, adding that he hopes to keep the camp running for years to come.
Joining Ostrenga on the field were local standouts Evan Malcore, Jerry Kaminski and Sam Ostrenga, each bringing their own expertise to help coach the next generation.
