The Iowa Wild concluded the 2025-26 hockey season with a remarkable record of giving back to the communities that support the team. Across a series of charity-driven events, the club raised $263,684 for local nonprofits, schools and youth programs, underscoring the franchise’s commitment to making a tangible difference off the ice.
Charity at the Core of the Wild’s Identity
Central to that effort was the jersey auction, which alone contributed $143,801. The proceeds were directed to organizations such as The ALS Association and the John Stoddard Cancer Center, providing critical resources for research and patient care. These donations reflect the Wild’s focus on health causes that resonate deeply with fans and players alike.
Beyond high‑profile auctions, the team launched several grassroots campaigns. Tame The Hunger mobilized $14,908 and delivered 50,000 meals to children in the Des Moines Public School SUCCESS Program, addressing food insecurity for families across the capital region. The annual Teddy Bear Toss added another layer of generosity, collecting 4,064 stuffed animals that were distributed to local shelters and youth centers.
The Goalie’s Give Back initiative, spearheaded by net‑minder Cal Petersen, raised $12,859 for the Des Moines Youth Hockey Association, helping to expand ice‑time and equipment access for aspiring players. Complementary programs such as Wild About Reading engaged 11,730 participants in literacy activities, while the floor‑hockey outreach reached 6,385 youngsters, introducing the sport to new audiences throughout Iowa.
A newer addition, Hockey In The Wild, brought the excitement of the game to more than 200 children in community centers, and an additional 100 kids earned the chance to step onto the rink through the Crash Course experience. These initiatives illustrate how the Wild leverages its platform to foster inclusion, education and healthy living across the state.
All of these efforts are made possible through partnerships with local businesses and community groups. One such partner, Kwik Star, has been a consistent supporter, providing resources that amplify the team’s outreach. By weaving together sport, charity and civic engagement, the Iowa Wild continues to set a benchmark for how professional teams can drive positive social impact.
