A coveted recruit's decision
Carter Barrett, a 6‑foot‑6, 305‑pound offensive tackle from Iowa, has officially received an offer from The Ohio State University, a move that has generated considerable buzz among college football followers.
Barrett, a member of the Class of 2028, is currently ranked as the second‑best prospect in his home state and holds the 144th spot nationally according to 247Sports. The four‑star recruit also boasts a 90‑grade rating and is listed 16th among players at his position.
His high school career at Dowling Catholic culminated in a Class 5A Iowa High School Athletic Association state championship last season, with Barrett contributing over 2,500 rushing yards, nearly 2,500 passing yards and 54 combined offensive touchdowns.
The talented lineman has amassed more than 20 scholarship offers from programs across the country, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Iowa, Michigan and a host of other powerhouses.
Among the schools courting him, Ohio State stands out not only for its historic program but also for the opportunity to join a team that is actively building a strong offensive line for the upcoming season.
Dowling Catholic will return several key contributors, among them running backs Grayson Pennington and Henry Smid, quarterback Ethan La Cava, and defensive standouts Carlos Blount, Jr., Jeremiah Roberson and Brady Hagan, all of whom are expected to play pivotal roles as the team looks to defend its title.
The commitment of a player of Barrett’s caliber underscores the growing competitiveness of Iowa’s high school football landscape and highlights the ongoing pipeline of talent feeding into major college programs.
