A Ballpark Dream Takes Shape
Irvine’s city council has teamed up with Innovation Baseball Partners to launch a professional baseball franchise that could take the field as early as 2027. The club will compete in the Pioneer Baseball League and call the newly upgraded Great Park Baseball Stadium its home.
The venture promises a premium, family‑friendly atmosphere that draws on the vibrancy of Asian baseball cultures. Organizers say the ballpark will blend top‑level athleticism with high‑end food, entertainment and hospitality, featuring a menu of Asian street foods and local craft beverages.
Don Wakamatsu, a former Major League player and World Series champion coach, will guide the team’s baseball operations. He has spoken about the sport’s power to bridge cultures and unite diverse communities.
Mayor Larry Agran has emphasized that the team will deliver world‑class sports entertainment to Orange County while keeping tickets affordable. The branding and team name are still being finalized, and player signings have not yet begun, though prospective athletes have been invited to try out for the Long Beach Coast, a recent IBP‑owned club.
Innovation Baseball Partners, which also helped launch the Long Beach Coast partially owned by rapper Warren G, believes fans deserve both a high‑quality experience and reasonable prices. The company envisions a ballpark that reflects the excitement of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball and South Korea’s KBO League.
