A New Frontier for Irvine Baseball
Irvine is set to become the newest host of a professional baseball franchise, with the city and Innovation Baseball Partners announcing a partnership that will see a team take the field in 2027.
The franchise will compete in the Pioneer Baseball League, an MLB‑affiliated independent league, and will call Great Park Baseball Stadium its home.
Community, Cuisine, and Competition
Mayor Larry Agran praised the venture, emphasizing its role as family‑friendly entertainment that will bring the community together.
Fans can look forward to a culinary menu that blends Asian street food, local craft beverages and classic ballpark fare, creating a unique game‑day experience.
Leadership with a Global Touch
Baseball operations will be overseen by Don Wakamatsu, the first Asian American manager to lead a Major League Baseball team, who will bring his global perspective to the new club.
Paul Freedman, co‑founder of Innovation Baseball Partners, highlighted the importance of affordable entertainment for families across Irvine’s diverse neighborhoods.
The organization plans to announce the team’s name, branding, venue agreements and player signings in the coming months, building excitement ahead of the 2027 debut.
