Jefferson City High School announced that Isaac Johnson will assume the role of head coach for the girls soccer program, a move that remains pending formal approval from the Jefferson City School Board. The decision follows a thorough search for a leader who can build on the program's recent progress and maintain its competitive edge.
A coach with deep roots in the community
A Jefferson City native, Johnson graduated from Helias Catholic High School in 2020 before embarking on a collegiate career that included stints at Central Methodist University and Lindenwood University. At Central Methodist, he earned all‑conference honors, served as team captain, and amassed eight goals and 16 assists, showcasing both offensive skill and leadership on the field.
After completing his undergraduate studies, Johnson returned to the area to teach business education at Jefferson City High School in 2025. During the same academic year he also served as an assistant coach for both the Lady Jays and the boys soccer teams, gaining hands‑on experience in player development and game strategy.
Johnson’s playing résumé includes a productive season at Lindenwood, where he started 17 of 20 matches and contributed a goal. His background as a forward, combined with his academic training and coaching experience, positions him to bring a nuanced understanding of the game to the Lady Jays program.
Replacing a long‑standing figure
He will succeed Scott Blake, who departed after more than two decades of service to the program to take a coaching position at Manhattan Christian College. Blake’s lengthy tenure left an indelible mark on the team, and Johnson’s appointment signals a strategic shift toward fresh perspectives while honoring the program’s established traditions.
The upcoming board meeting will likely focus on logistical details, including budget allocations for equipment and travel, as well as plans for community outreach. If approved, Johnson’s leadership will commence at the start of the next season, heralding a new chapter for Jefferson City girls soccer.
