Ishua Benjamin Takes the Helm at West Cabarrus High School

Former NC State Star Returns to Coach in Concord

A Homecoming for a Local Legend

Ishua Benjamin, a former North Carolina State standout, has been appointed head coach of West Cabarrus High School in Concord, bringing a blend of playing pedigree and coaching experience to the program.

During his collegiate career at NC State from 1994 to 1998, Benjamin averaged 10.7 points per game and earned ACC All‑Freshman honors in 1995. He remains among the school’s all‑time leaders in assists and steals, a testament to his playmaking ability.

Before joining West Cabarrus, Benjamin served as a head coach at Cary Academy in Wake County, where he honed his leadership skills and developed a reputation for nurturing talent. He also starred at Concord High School in the early 1990s, collecting all‑state honors, a fourth‑team Parade All‑American selection, and guiding his team to the state semifinals.

The West Cabarrus team posted a 16‑12 record in the 2025‑2026 season and advanced to the second round of the 7A state playoffs. Benjamin will look to build on that momentum and infuse the program with his deep community ties and familiarity with local talent.

Community leaders and parents alike are optimistic that Benjamin’s return to his hometown will revitalize the program and inspire the next generation of players. With his blend of experience and local pride, the new coach is poised to make a lasting impact on West Cabarrus basketball.
