The New York Islanders have announced a new affiliation with the freshly launched Trenton Ironhawks of the ECHL, marking the third occasion the franchise has partnered with a team based in Trenton.
The Ironhawks will call CURE Insurance Arena home, a venue that accommodates roughly 7,500 fans for hockey games and sits in the heart of New Jersey's capital.
A fresh start in New Jersey
Simultaneously, the Islanders' top minor‑league club in the American Hockey League is set to relocate from Bridgeport, Connecticut, where it has been based since 2001, to Hamilton, Ontario, for the upcoming season.
Mathieu Darche, the Islanders' executive vice president and general manager, said the partnership reflects a commitment to growing the sport in New Jersey and to providing a clear pathway for players aspiring to the NHL.
Bob Ohrablo, president of the Ironhawks, expressed pride in welcoming the Islanders organization and their AHL team into the Ironhawks family, emphasizing the shared ambition to bring professional hockey back to the Garden State's capital.
The move also signals a strategic expansion for the Islanders, who previously worked with the Trenton Titans from 1999‑2002 and again in 2005‑06 before the Titans ceased operations in 2013.
