Islanders' Learn‑to‑Play Hockey Clinic Returns to Oyster Bay
The New York Islanders are bringing back their ‘Learn to Play’ hockey clinic to the Town of Oyster Bay, offering a structured introduction to the sport for children between five and nine years old.
The program, known as The Future Islanders Program, consists of eight on‑ice training sessions that guide youngsters through the basics of hockey while providing all necessary equipment.
Sessions will be held at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage, with each class lasting one hour. Parents can choose between a Wednesday slot at 6:15 p.m. or a Thursday slot at 6:00 p.m., beginning on August 5.
Councilman Andrew Monteleone expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, noting that the clinic aligns with the town’s commitment to fostering youth sports opportunities.
Registration costs $295 per child and includes full hockey gear for first‑time participants. The fee also secures appearances by Isles alumni Arron Asham and Radek Martinek, who will meet with the youngsters during the program.
Because space is limited, interested families are encouraged to register promptly. The initiative aims to serve as a gateway for children who are trying hockey for the first time, helping them transition smoothly into organized play.
