A vibrant basketball tournament unfolded last weekend in Beaumont, Texas, drawing families and friends to a local gym where young athletes competed in 1‑on‑1, 2‑on‑2 and 3‑on‑3 games.
The event was organized by ISO Island, a nonprofit founded by longtime Beaumont residents Booker Daniels and Bryan Douglas, who grew up playing on the same courts they now aim to revitalize.
Building Futures Through Sport
Beyond the competition, the tournament served as a platform for mentorship, with coach Lashon Proctor and other volunteers offering guidance on sportsmanship, teamwork and life skills.
Organizers emphasized that the initiative is about more than winning; it is about steering youth away from violence and toward positive opportunities, using the love of the game as a catalyst for personal growth.
ISO Island plans to expand its reach, bringing similar events to other neighborhoods and creating a pipeline for athletes to showcase talent, develop skills and access scholarships.
With a vision of a basketball culture where hard work and passion open doors, the organization continues to invest in the next generation through training, facility access and community partnerships.
