Season Opener at Briner Sports Complex
The IU Indianapolis women's soccer team opened its 2024 campaign on August 13 at the Briner Sports Complex, where it faced Ball State in a tightly contested match that ended 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
Early Lead for the Cardinals
Ball State struck first in the third minute when Kaelyn Valleau found the net, the goal set up by Jordyn Klaasen, putting the Cardinals ahead early and forcing IU Indy to chase the game.
Offensive Struggles and Goalkeeper Saves
IU Indy answered with a corner kick from Annaliese Black, but the effort failed to break through, and the Jaguars struggled to generate clear chances as Ball State controlled the tempo. Goalkeepers Sofia Rodriguez and Isabel Oferosky kept the deficit manageable, with Rodriguez stopping a shot from Annika Klauss in the 29th minute and Oferosky making several saves to preserve the score.
Second Half Dominance
The second half saw Ball State extend its lead when Anna Kate Robillard volleyed home in the 54th minute, after which the Cardinals maintained a 13-6 shot advantage and a 10-2 corner kick margin, highlighting their dominance.
Looking Ahead
Head coach Angela Berry White acknowledged the team’s lapses on set pieces that led to goals, but expressed confidence that the squad will learn from the experience as it prepares for its next test against Louisville on August 16.
