Jack Andes, a senior standout at North Canton Hoover High School, has become the centerpiece of the Vikings' baseball squad as they chase a historic state championship.
A Dual‑Sport Phenomenon
Beyond the diamond, Andes has dazzled as a wide receiver and running back in football, earning Federal League Player of the Year honors and amassing 1,593 yards of offense.
On the baseball field he bats leadoff, patrols center field, and closes games as a pitcher, posting a 5‑0 record with a 0.98 ERA and eight saves this season.
His bat has produced a .397 average, four home runs, three triples, 31 runs scored and 42 stolen bases, while his speed has helped the team compile 135 stolen bases in 164 attempts.
The Vikings are slated to meet Walsh Jesuit in the Division II state semifinals on June 12, a matchup that could crown the program’s first ever title.
Coach Bryan Ashby has repeatedly highlighted Andes’ team‑first mentality, noting that his leadership reshapes opponents’ pitching and fielding strategies.
Off the field, Andes has committed to Bowling Green State University, where he will continue his baseball career, and he will be joined by a senior class that includes Carter Lukens, Jack Ziarko, Evan Fuller and others.
With 121 career stolen bases, 89 runs scored, 16 saves and 10 triples, Andes ranks among the state’s all‑time greats, sitting 13th in Ohio history for stolen bases according to OHSAA unofficial records.
His remarkable senior year, marked by excellence in both football and baseball, positions him to cap his high school career with a state title that would etch his name in Canton’s sports lore.
