Jack Nolan, the longtime mentor of Wilkes‑Barre Area’s boys’ soccer program, stepped onto the field for the last time in October 2026, marking the end of a nearly three‑decade coaching journey. His final season coincided with his retirement from a career in banking, a move that allowed him to devote more time to the sport that had shaped his life.
Nolan’s story began on the sidelines of U6 soccer, where he and his wife, Sherry, volunteered for two practices and one match each week while coaching his son, Jason. The first match ended in a 9‑0 loss, but a young player’s enthusiasm reminded Nolan that enjoyment mattered more than the scoreboard, a lesson that guided his coaching philosophy.
From those early days, Nolan progressed through junior high and varsity levels, eventually taking over the varsity program after the passing of Garry George. When the local schools merged, he helped steer the newly formed Wilkes‑Barre Area Wolfpack program, benefiting from strong support from administrators, parents, and the broader community.
